Google to ban ads on cryptocurrencies, related products

Image
Alphabet Inc’s Google said on Wednesday it will ban advertisements for cryptocurrencies and related content starting in June. Under the new policy, the company will ban ads for unregulated or speculative financial products like binary options, cryptocurrency and financial spread betting among others. In a separate blog post, Google said it took down 3.2 billion ads that violated its advertising policies in 2017, nearly double the number of ads it removed in 2016. "Improving the ads experience across the web, whether that's removing harmful ads or intrusive ads, will continue to be a top priority for us," Scott Spencer, director of sustainable ads, said. In January, Facebook Inc said it will ban ads promoting financial products and services tied to cryptocurrencies and initial coin offerings. The policy will be implemented across its platforms, including Facebook, Audience Network and Instagram, the company said.

Self-piloted flying taxis are being tested in New Zealand as part of a project backed by Google co-founder Larry

Image
Wellington: Self-piloted flying taxis are being tested in New Zealand as part of a project backed by Google co-founder Larry Page that supporters say will revolutionise personal transport. New Zealand regulators on Tuesday approved plans for Zephyr Airworks, a subsidiary of Page´s company Kitty Hawk, to develop and test the futuristic air taxis. Known as Cora, the electric aircraft has a dozen lift fans on its wings, making it capable of vertical take-off and landing like a helicopter. But developers say it is much quieter, meaning it could transport passengers in urban areas using rooftops and car parks as landing pads. "We are offering a pollution free, emission free vehicle that flies dependably, we think this is the logical next step in the evolution of transportation," Zephyr chief executive Fred Reid said. The Cora prototype being tested in New Zealand´s South Island uses three on-board computers to calculate its flight path and is capable of carrying two...

Internet overseers weigh website owner privacy

Image
SAN FRANCISCO: The group overseeing Internet addresses is scrambling to balance the privacy of website owners and the right to know who is behind online pages. The nonprofit Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) began a weeklong meeting Monday focused on the fate of the public Whois database, which shows contact information for those who own websites. A General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) set to take effect in the European Union on May 25 could make revealing personal information about website owners in Whois illegal. This week´s ICANN meeting in Puerto Rico is the last before the GDPR deadline. "We will try to find a path forward," ICANN global domains division president Akram Atallah told AFP in a telephone interview. "There is a lot of work still to be done, but we are working as fast as possible." While the GDPR backs the right of people to "be forgotten" online, it raises the question of whether to shield per...

Alone at health clinic, Australian treats self for heart attack

Image
SYDNEY: Alone at a health clinic in a small, remote seaside settlement in Australia, a 44-year-old nurse sensed he was having a heart attack and sprang into action, saving his own life, a report said Wednesday. The man, whose name was withheld for privacy reasons, experienced severe chest pain and dizziness while he was the sole medical professional on duty at a nursing post in Coral Bay, more than 600 miles (1,000 kilometers) from Perth, the capital of Western Australia, said the account published in the New England Journal of Medicine. With the next medical facility 90 miles (150 kilometers) away and no one else around to help, he hooked himself up to an electrocardiogram (EKG), which showed a complete heart block that may have been due to an evolving heart attack. The man then performed another EKG on himself, which confirmed the diagnosis of a heart attack. He emailed the results to a doctor via the Emergency Telehealth Service (ETS), and found an emergency physician to ...

How To Start A News Blog, Run and Open a Successful website: My $200 daily earnings experience

Image
A blog is much more of a personal touch, meaning that it is run as a one man show and the contents are basically a reflection of the thoughts/analysis of the publisher. However, the website version is much more multidimensional . It s usually on a large scale, with lots of columnists and contributors on the site. To run such a site is a little bit expensive because you need to invest on social media seriously ( Facebook and twitter especially), hire writers e.t.c. Typically, most physical companies in this niche are the ones running accompanying website whereas individuals/independents usually start out with a blog. The model of setting up either model is the same with WordPress. For anyone wanting to venture in this niche, I strongly advise that you start with the blog niche and gradually grow/scale up everything into becoming a full fledged website ( I started with this model and still using the model, I average the sum of USD200 per day from Google Adsense earnings ). ...

Heart disease patients live longer when they exercise

Image
Older adults with heart disease who regularly exercise, even a little bit, may live longer than they would without any physical activity, a Norwegian study suggests. Researchers examined three decades of data on 3,307 adults who had been diagnosed with coronary heart disease after a heart attack or an episode of severe chest pain, known as angina, caused by inadequate blood supply to the heart. By the time half of the patients had been in the study for at least 15 years, 1,493 of them had died. Compared to people who were inactive, participants who consistently got the minimum recommended amount of exercise for adults were 36 percent less likely to die during the study. If these very active people scaled back their workouts over time, they were still 26 percent less likely to die than sedentary individuals. And even a little exercise was tied to a longer life. People who consistently exercised, though less than the average, were still 19 percent less likely to die than seden...

"In the future we hope to use technological innovation to push forward the next developmental step of reform and opening," Ma said. He was referring to China’s economic liberalisation policy that has fuelled four decades of breakneck economic growth. Although Ma said WeChat’s monthly active users had crossed the one billion threshold, a company spokesman told AFP he was referring to its total number of accounts. Still, the one billion figure indicates the huge user base which Tencent has buil...

‘Disruptor-in-chief’: Amazon boss Jeff Bezos

Image
SAN FRANCISCO: Jeff Bezos is officially the richest person on the planet thanks to the success of Amazon -- but his bold vision extends to space and even time itself. With Amazon´s share price up nearly 60 percent during the past year, the personal wealth of the company´s 54-year-old founder has doubled to more than $110 billion. Bezos leapt past Bill Gates this week to the top spot on an annual Forbes magazine list of billionaires, relegating the Microsoft co-founder to second place with a net worth of about $90 billion. He has gone on record with a formula for success that includes taking bold bets, riding change and rebounding from setbacks. "You need to be nimble and robust so you need to be able to take a punch and you also need to be quick and innovative and do new things at a higher speed, that´s the best defense against the future," Bezos said in an interview published in Vanity Fair magazine last year. "You have to always be leaning into the future....
