CUF has said it will not take part in Zanzibar’s
Revolution Day anniversary celebrations
Zanzibar. CUF has said it will not take part in
Zanzibar’s Revolution Day anniversary
celebrations until the decision of the
Zanzibar electorate expressed through the
October 25 General Election is respected.
This was said yesterday by Mansoor Yussuf
Himid, an advisor to CUF Secretary General
Maalim Seif  Shariff Hamad, at a media
briefing session at the party’s offices in
Zanzibar.

Traditionally, government leaders, including
the First Deputy President Maalim Seif Sharif
Hamad, lead wananchi in Revolution Day
commemorations on January 12. “We have
decided that our leaders will not participate
in an event involving government leaders
whose terms of office are over. We take this
opportunity to wish the people of Zanzibar
good celebrations,” said.

Alone at health clinic, Australian treats self for heart attack

SYDNEY: Alone at a health clinic in a small, remote seaside settlement in Australia, a 44-year-old nurse sensed he was having a heart attack and sprang into action, saving his own life, a report said Wednesday. The man, whose name was withheld for privacy reasons, experienced severe chest pain and dizziness while he was the sole medical professional on duty at a nursing post in Coral Bay, more than 600 miles (1,000 kilometers) from Perth, the capital of Western Australia, said the account published in the New England Journal of Medicine. With the next medical facility 90 miles (150 kilometers) away and no one else around to help, he hooked himself up to an electrocardiogram (EKG), which showed a complete heart block that may have been due to an evolving heart attack. Zanzibar police say to escort voters in elections

Zanzibar. Police here have promised to escort those wishing to vote in tomorrow’s polls, if the need arises. Urban West Regional Police Commander Mkadam Khamis Mkadam told Kwetu blog on Saturday that security would be maintained. Police officers will be stationed inside polling stations and within 200 metres from the stations, he said. “There are a lot of threats. If anyone wants to vote and thinks his or her life is in danger, he or she can reach us and we will escort the person to the polling station and back home. We have furnished the public with our telephone numbers.” According to him, patrols will be intensified in some areas based on the past election experience. “Some areas are notorious for political violence.
